Brand information / About the designer

―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.

Miriam: It was my dream since I was a child. My mother worked in clothing manufacture. so that world was around me and I was always drawing the girls with my designs. Yohei: I liked fashion since I was little.
When I was a university student, my friend and I decided to create a t-shirt brand but unfortunately my friend died. A few years later I met Miriam and she started with SHOOP and I was helping her from the beginning.

―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing?

We try to be contemporary, elegance or difference and we would like to communicate our thoughts or something we think it’s fun. Also we would like to be part of contemporary culture. Our images of men and women are elegant, sophisticated and mysterious.

―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?

Many things and places. Sometime, a music, a cinema, someone’ style in the street, a image that was founded on the internet, etc. Regarding to a design concept, it depend on our thoughts and feelings of this moment.

―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.

Our current area is Tokyo. We think our clients are between students of university and Twenties but we are getting people of different ages more and more. We are glad to see different people who wear our clothes with their own style.

―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?

Miriam: Designers: Miuccia Prada, Martin Margiela or Raf Simons. I appreciate the designers who have managed to create their own style and world. As Brand is Nike and as culture and styles are Hip Hop & RnB. Yohei: As I have been working on stussy. I think I have a lot of influence of Stussy. Regarding to designers: Raf Simons, Helmut Lang or Yohji Yamamoto. As culture: Hip Hop, Jazz or Club culture. I was studying piano since i was a child and i wanted to be jazz pianist. Also i make music and i play dj.

―Why have you chosen Tokyo (Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO) as the venue for presenting your collection?

―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2021 S/S season?

SHOOP introduces its new collection for the SS21 season inspired by t he new needs people have when choosing the garments we wear actually.

―What is your vision for your show / installation?

―What are your brand’s future outlook and goal?

Our future outlook is growing in creation and business. Our goal is internationalizing more and becoming one of the leading brands.

About TOKYO

―What does Tokyo represent for you?

Many creative people or people who have some goal come to Tokyo so for us there are many stimulations and good vibe. You can meet many interesting people. Beautiful city, clean, safe, many entertainments, many good foods, you can find nature too, etc. We love Tokyo.

―Which parts / sites of Tokyo do you like most? Why?

We love the places where the old thing and new thing coexist. Naritasan Fukagawa Fudodo is exciting or Yoyogi Hachiman where you can chill. Also Odaiba at night is like Akira´s Neo Tokyo and you can feel the future.

―What are your favorite / recommended shops (of any genres, e.g. fashion stores, homeware stores, food services), facilities and sites?

We usually go to our friend, Seiho´s Oden Bar, Sono Toori at Shibuya. You can find interesting people there always. When foreign friends come to Tokyo, We take them to Moss Burger, Don quijote or Tokyu hands.
