With Respect for Our History, Toward a New 20 Years \u2014More Compelling Fashion Week Unique to Tokyo<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Japan Fashion Week Organization (hereinafter “JFWO”) celebrated its 20th anniversary during the 2026 S\/S season held last September. From the 2027 S\/S season onward \u2014 a new milestone \u2014 we will continue to aim for a fashion week unique to Tokyo that is even more compelling, with respect for the history we have built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years we have further strengthened our activities as a platform supporting the challenges of Japan-based designers \u2014 partnering or collaborating with a wide range of fashion events overseas, driving international exchange and communication, and creating the new presentation opportunities that arise from them. We will continue to share with the world the creations of Japan-based designers and their potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toward a Platform That Supports Diverse Presentation Formats<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, the environment surrounding designers \u2014 world affairs, the economy, production conditions and more \u2014 has been changing and having a major impact on the fashion industry. As presentation formats diversify at fashion weeks overseas, Tokyo\u2018s fashion week will this season feature presentations in a variety of formats, centered on physical shows. In step with this changing era and the diversification of presentation formats that allow brands to express their worldview and creations in the most fitting way, JFWO will continue to evolve its role as a platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participating Brands and Show Schedule Announced<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO 2027 S\/S season, a total of 28 collections have been confirmed \u2014 including one brand presenting through \u201cby R,\u201d a project organized by Rakuten Group, Inc. (Rakuten) to energize Japan\u2019s fashion scene and share its appeal with the world. This comprises 25 official designer shows (including 4 first participants) and 3 partnership shows (9 overseas participants).
As in previous seasons, shows will be held with Shibuya Hikarie as the main venue, along with brands’ own independent venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2027<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Following a rigorous review, the 2027 JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD Grand Prix was determined to be “no recipient.”
The reason is the view of the judges and JFWO that, while the designers in the final selection hold high potential in terms of quality, originality, and financial strength (including securing the budget to hold shows on an ongoing basis), they are not yet ready at this point to be selected as a NEXT BRAND and to stage a show.
At the same time, we hold out hope that brands with talent, strong will and potential \u2014 who still have room to grow in finding originality in their craft, improving quality including sewing, and increasing financial strength \u2014 may grow further over the next year or two into brands we can champion as Tokyo’s NEXT BRAND, and we look forward to their taking on the challenge again.
Thanks in part to the judges and the media, we once again feel the high level and growth of past NEXT BRAND AWARD Grand Prix winners, and we feel we have been able to build good momentum as an award for discovering NEXT brands.
For our part, JFWO intends to take this opportunity to thoroughly reconsider the significance of the NEXT BRAND AWARD and what JFWO should do, and to update how the NEXT BRAND AWARD is
