Capturing the concept of “clothing beautiful from every angle,” the brand presented its specialty outerwear that combined functionality and fashionability. For this show, however, the designer focused on highlighting unique personalities through the use of outerwear. “I chose this presentation because this is exactly how I want to present my collection,” said designer Miura. By casting models of varying heights, genders, and ages yet having several of them wear the same look, the brand revealed an individuality that the clothing was capable of bringing out in each person.

This season’s theme was “POST NEW WAVE,” produced from a deep admiration for David Byrne of the rock band “Talking Heads”—drawing influence from his music and approach to creating movement. While the designer typically incorporates elements of uniforms into every collection, this time the focus was on fishermen’s attire. Motifs evoking the sea, including Basque shirts and sailor hats, were incorporated into the looks. The featured knit items created by Yuri Asaka of “KNIT CRUSADERS” were a rare sight for the brand.

The collection revealed that through shifting your perspective, any garment can take on a new life. The same clothing was able to reveal a completely different character depending on which model was wearing it, allowing viewers to encounter fresh beauty from every angle, all 360 degrees, 365 days a year, anytime, anywhere. It was a runway show that reminded the audience of the pure sense of joy fashion can bring.

– Brands presented on Wednesday September 2nd –
EITARO (from 12:30 PM) Shibuya Hikarie Hikarie Hall, Hall B

EITARO, now entering its third season since debut, participated in Rakuten FWT for the second time. This season captured the theme of “shedding,” a continuation from the previous season’s theme of “chrysalis” and “seihanagi” back-blooming arrangements. The collection embodied the essence of shedding and breaking free, designer Uemura optimistically stated, “Three is an important number for me. My goal is to achieve results on this third attempt.” In a sharp contrast to last season’s monochrome world, this season focused on the power of color. Uemura explained her philosophy stating, “The ‘dark pasts’ we often refer to are simply the result of layered colors; when we look back at the past, we can see that even painful memories are imbued with their own inherit color”—a positive reminder to always cherish the past as we shed old layers and move forward.

Organza was used to capture the layering of colors in the most beautiful way possible. By layering yellow over red to create orange, or blue over red to create purple, the designer used organza to lightheartedly bring to life a world of memories rendered through an interplay of colors. Eye-catching pieces featuring layered organza with a bleach-denim-style print also made an appearance. In the show’s finale, a friend of the designer known to have stated, “Words are just as beautiful as clothing,” read a poem that the designer had written: “Surely this world and I are layered as vividly as the three primary colors.”
The venue also featured influencers dressed head-to-toe in EITARO originals, including some guests wearing the brand’s baggy pants that went internationally viral on social media, as well as some sporting the school uniform jackets from the brand’s debut season. This season, under the theme “Landscapes2,” the brand continued its focus from the previous season on the ordinary daily lives of Japanese people. Rather than telling a clear story from a first-person perspective, the brand captures everyday life from multiple angles, using clothing to depict landscapes that exist between reality, memory, and fantasy.

A key concept essential to understanding pillings’ creations is “discrepancy.” The flowers adorning a cardigan were rendered as if dye had bled through the knit layer beneath, while balloon-like silhouettes appeared slightly sagging. By twisting, pinching, or fraying simple items like shirts and cardigans, the brand brought to light the subtle sense of dissonance that occasionally lurks within the unremarkable everyday.

Everyday items such as a knit sweater began to straddle the line between everyday life and fantasy as fluffy fibers were arranged like a bouquet. The blue-and-white knit, which resembled tie-dye, featured a pattern created not by dyeing but through intarsia knitting—a knitting technique that pillings is renowned for.

The reason for choosing the Asahi Shimbun headquarters as the venue was that the newspaper’s serialized column “Koe” (Voice)—which designer Murakami describes as “a place where I can connect with society”—perfectly aligned with this season’s theme.
