Japan's unique culture-rooted in a profound love of nature and sensitivity to the changing seasons-has long fascinated people from all over the globe. Thanks in large part to this context, the Japanese fashion industry features some of the world's most advanced technical expertise and highest quality fabrics, and is blessed with designers whose creations are esteemed around the world.
The Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo (JFW) project seeks to capitalize on these strengths and establish Tokyo as a key destination on the world fashion calendar.
This autumn's inaugural JFW event, with its condensed show schedule and slimmed-down roster of venues, is the first step in transforming Tokyo into a convenient place to encounter cutting edge fashion and build rewarding business relationships.
We hope that everyone who experiences this pioneering event will discover that Tokyo fashion is not just about clothes, but also extends to Japan's rich and varied "lifestyle culture," and will further enhance our city's reputation for unparalleled sensitivity and stylishness.
Everybody involved in JFW is eagerly waiting to extend a warm welcome to those who take this opportunity to experience this long-awaited celebration of Japanese fashion.
I would also like to take this opportunity to offer my most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped to make this landmark event possible-your efforts are greatly appreciated. |

Message from JFW in Tokyo Executive Committee Chairman Masahiko Miyake |
With the rise of developing countries dominating the global fashion business in recent years, Japan must strive to create high value-added products in order to remain truly competitive in the world marketplace. To this end,it is essential to establish internationally recognizable Japanese brands.
In order to do this, the Japanese fashion industry needs to muster the full range of its resources: the creative power of its designers, the technical expertise of its textile industry craftsmen, and its experience in marketing products to the worldfs most demanding consumers-the trinity ofgcreation,hgartisanshi,handgbusinessh-and deepen cooperation between these forces.
With this in mind, Japanfs textile and apparel industries are already working together to improve
communications in overseas markets and promote exports. The industries also recognize the need to further
enhance and accelerate that process by developing a comprehensive strategy based on a shared framework,
and by increasing the number of exhibitions of Japanese fashion, from fabrics to finished goods.
Increased cooperation between the three elements of the trinity mentioned above has resulted in Japan
Fashion Week in Tokyo (JFW), which we hope will act as a forum through which to showcase Japanese brands
to the rest of the world.
The fashion industry features prominently in the governmentfs ongoing 2005 intellectual property rights
campaign, and as part of the efforts to promote this campaign, we in the fashion industry have come together to
create this forum for showing Japanese fashion to the world.
Thanks to these exciting new developments, which are manifest in the all-new Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo,
we are proud to invite you to witness the work of highly talented creators and the world-leading Japanese textile
industry, whose new activities have been christened gJ-Groove.h
