Introduction to "Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo" |
October 31st - November 9th |
Background |
Japan's fashion industry is renowned for making high quality merchandise for a large and very demanding domestic market, but the nation's flagship catwalk fashion event, The Tokyo Collections, with its overly long schedule and scattered venues, has attracted interest only from Japanese buyers and media - until now.
2005 marks 20 years since the founding of the Tokyo Collections' organizing body The Council of Fashion Designers Tokyo. This landmark is being celebrated with a new-look, compact runway show schedule held as part of Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo (JFW), which is organized with support from the apparel business, textile industry, department stores and fashion colleges under the auspices of the Fashion Strategy Council.
This year also happens to be Tokyo's turn to host the 7th Annual International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes and JFW has been scheduled to coincide with that event. From next spring, the schedule will be slimmed down further and the date brought forward in the fashion calendar. |
Concept |
Catwalk collections and static exhibitions
A textile design exhibition
A tradeshow and business networking event
A symposium on the place of Japanese fashion in the world
A weekend falls in the middle of the JFW schedule, and on that day fashion shows open to the public will be staged in the vicinity of the venue for trade-oriented events.
unning alongside JFW will be a citywide PR campaign titled "J Groove", which seeks to spark an interest in the world of fashion among Tokyo residents. |
Goals |
Create opportunities for new designers with an interest in the Asian market to show off their talents.
Make Tokyo a more conducive environment for creative enterprise.
Facilitate partnerships and encourage cooperation between creators and business. |
