Born in Kyoto, Saito is the
eldest son of modern kimono dyeing artisan Sansai Saito. He started women's pret-a-porter
brand Otius in 1990, which first showed at the Kobe Collections in 1994 and at
the Tokyo Collect ions in 1996. The kimono brand JOTARO SAITO was presented at
the 1st Koten exhibition in 1997 and has been shown in Kyoto in exhibition format
every season since. In 2002, it became the first kimonoonly brand to show at the
Tokyo Collections. Saito will launch a line of lacquer ware and interior goods
in Autumn 2005.
