Hanai graduated from Nagasawa
SetsuOs Setsu Mode Seminar college and founded Atelier Hanai in 1964. She opened
the boutique Madame Hanai in TokyoOs Ginza in 1968. She won the Fashion EditorsO
Club prize in 1973 and changed her company name to Hanai in 1984. She has worked
on costumes for countless ballet and movie productions. Hanai has been a member
of various committees for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and is a
member of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives.
