In 2006, Tamae Hirokawa established SOMA DESIGN after working for Issey Miyake. At the same time, she instituted "SOMARTA" and has participated in the Tokyo collection since 2007 Spring/ Summer.
She received the 25th "Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix New Face Award”, "Shiseido Encouragement" Award, and "WIRED AUDI INNOVATION AWARD 2018” as well.

She designed the uniform for beauty consultants who worked in Shiseido General Beauty Facility "SHISEIDO THE GINZA" (from 2011 to 2017). Besides she held her solo exhibition "Tamae Hirokawa Exhibition Body Genealogy -Creation of SOMARTA-" for the first time in domestic and abroad (2014).

In addition she accomplished variety of exhibitions such as:

In these ways, she is involved in many corporate collaborations from installations to concept models.
The signature item "Skin Series", which she has been working on since she established the brand, was exhibited and stored at the "Items: Is Fashion Modern?" Exhibition (2017-2018) held at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art, New York), and attracted a lot of attention.
