tokyoeye 2016 | Project Participated in Tranoï Femme Good responses toward overseas expansion
Utilizing the assistant project by the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, Japan Fashion Week Organization is promoting “tokyoeye 2016 Project” to support up-and-coming small and medium fashion brands which aim to expand overseas. A total of 12 women’s brands, largely those that participated in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo, joined Tranoï Femme which was held in Paris on October 2-5.
Prior to the exhibition, the Project invited Mr. Armand Hadida, who is both owner of a select shop, L’Eclaireur, and an artistic director of Tranoï, to meet with the participating brands in Tokyo and give advice on product development. At the tokyoeye venue, he himself took care of the display and visited it frequently during the exhibition to encourage the participating brands.
In addition to buyers of L’Eclaireur and Galeries Lafayette, a major department store in Paris, many influential buyers visited the tokyoeye venue mostly from Europe, but also from North America, Middle East and Asian countries, and active negotiations were held every day. Although Tranoï was the first exhibition for many brands, the negotiations turned out to be so successful that about 50 orders were received. Buyers highly regarded Japan’s unique high-quality materials, prints and knits created using the high-level techniques presented by the brands.
Participating brands commented that “Because we narrowed down our products thanks to the advice we received in advance, we were able to demonstrate clearly our brand strengths and received a number of orders,” “The jacket we developed based on Mr. Hadida’s advice was very popular with buyers, which created a momentum to all of our negotiations,” and “Since the overall tokyoeye space shows many brands with different strengths in one place, it produces the force to bring in many people, and we think, thanks to this, we were able to attract many buyers.”
Following the exhibition, the Project will invite Ms. Cindy Ho, a consultant, from Paris at the end of October, to hold feedback meetings with all companies.
