Jiyoung (Kang Ji-young) is the official supporter of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week TOKYO 2016 A/W collection, which is held from 14th to 19th March.

Jiyoung appears in Drama, movies and commercials, in Japan and recently debuted as a solo artist with the stage name “JY”. She will be Tokyo’s fashion global ambassador, fluent in not only Japanese, but also English and Chinese.

Jiyong’s comment

Q. What was your impression when you came to the MBFWT venue?
There were many fashionistas, everyone’s hairstyle and make-up was very original, and fashionable. I could tell that they really love fashion.

Q. How did you feel to have been selected as the official supporter?
I was very glad to become the official supporter! I love fashion, because it is a great way to express one`s freedom. I want to learn more about Japanese brands, so this will be a great opportunity to do so. Recently, watching live streams or archived fashion shows has becomes very common, almost a trend. I of course want to attend the live show, but if I cannot, I will watch it online.

Q. Are there are any similarities and/or difference between the Japanese and the Korea street fashion style?
The diffusion of basic, specific items like sneakers and wide pants occurs at the same time. On the other hand, when it comes to more unique fashion items like, hair and make-up styles, Japan is more unique.

Q. Lastly, what are you expectations from the upcoming MBFWT?
In the global context, they are still growing, but the incubation of the young Japanese fashion brands. We are only the half way through this season, but I am very excited for next season!

Profile

Jiyoung was born on 18th January 1994, in South Korea.
She started her acting career in the summer of 2014. Jiyoung currently stars in a NTV drama “Higanbana~Keishicho sosa nana ka~”.
She also stars in the Japanese films “Assassination classroom”, which broadcasts on the 25th of March and “Kataomoi Spiral” on the 2nd of July, which will be her first lead role. In September, she will take on her second lead role and make her first broad-way musical debut, in “sweet charity”.On the 16th of March, she released her debut single “Last Goodbye”, as a solo singer, under her stage name JY.
