Teppei Fujita, designer of sulvam,
clinches award for promising fashion designers

Tokyo, Oct 22, 2016: To showcase Japan’s design talent to the world, DHL Japan has been organizing the DHL Designer Award since 2011. The winner of this award is selected based on the contender’s creativity, designs and the potential to go global. The award has helped past winners expand their footprints overseas. Winners are selected by DHL, the Official Logistics Partner of Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO(AmazonFWT) and Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFW Organization), from a pool of promising fashion designers who showcased their collections at the fashion week. DHL will provide the winner with international shipping credits valued at a total of 500,000 JPY, which can be used to ship collection pieces, samples, design material, and other goods internationally.

Teppei Fujita started the sulvam brand in 2013 and has since expanded his label overseas. He has held two exhibitions in Paris in 2014/2015 as a winner of the TOKYO FASHION AWARD. In 2015, Teppei Fujita was chosen to showcase his collection at Milano Unica, a textile trade show in Milan.

Fujita’s comment

“Since the inauguration of the sulvam label, I make it a point to compete out of Japan regardless of the location, be it Paris, London, or New York. I would like to take the opportunity offered by this award to step up sulvam’s global expansion, in addition to my business in the US, UK, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Japan.”

In addition to the DHL Designer Award, DHL has been supporting the global fashion industry since 2014, through the DHL Exported program. A collaboration with IMG, the program aims to help talented designers expand their businesses internationally. The winner can release his/her collection through runway shows at fashion week either in Tokyo, Milan, London or New York.

Anne Sofie Madsen, winner of the DHL Exported program, successfully unveiled her second collection at AmazonFWT. Also, Atsushi Nakashima, the first Japanese designer selected as a winner for the DHL Exported program, successfully completed his second runway show in Milan Fashion Week this season.
