RakutenFWT 2020 S/S | Day 1 Report

Beautiful new kimonos gathered on stage one after another along with a laser-light production, and after a music performance by YOSHIKI himself, at the finale of the show, a model wearing a uchikake kimono wavering in the wind, appeared on the runway dancing gracefully. A truly overwhelming masterpiece stage production with tons of rose petals raining within the venue.

The opening show was “YOSHIKIMONO” (13:30~ at Hikarie Hall A)

In the latest collection, presented for the 3rd time, the first in 3 years, there were kimonos with the anime “Attack on Titan” largely drawn on it, and kimonos with “Blood Red Dragon”, a Marvel comic written with YOSHIKI as the model, created in 2011 in collaboration with Stan Lee, placed entirely on the kimono.  Much attention gathered to “YOSHIKIMONO”, which is gathering attention from overseas also.
In addition to traditional kimonos, cutting-edge new items which will blow further new winds into the kimono industry such as kimonos arranged like dresses called “dress-kimono” which surpass the conventional framework of ‘kimonos’, lustrous kimonos using metallic, stamping and lace, kimonos made with consideration of “sustainability” which is a global concern, were presented one after another.
After the presentation, YOSHIKI commented, “this time’s kimono using anime drawings were a challenge for me.  Whether its rock, classic or fashion, I’d like people to go home gaining some stimulation. I’m constantly hoping to spread the kimono industry, and today’s show turned out to be one even myself was excited.  I’m still a newcomer in the fashion industry, but I intend to keep challenging while receiving advice from everybody”, on his impression of this time’s collection.
