RakutenFWT 2023 S/S | Day 1 Report

“「Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO (hereinafter indicated as Rakuten FWT) 2023 S/S” (governing body: the Japan Fashion Week Organization, hereinafter indicated as JFWO), welcomed its first day, opening by an online presentation by “Seivson” 11:00~.

“JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2023” Grand-prix award-winning brand, “FETICO”, presented their first ever runway show

As this season’s first physical presentation, the first ever show by “FETICO”, the grand-prix award-winning brand of “JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2023”, the physical division of a brand support program by JFWO established from the 2023 S/S season, was presented at the official venue of Shibuya Hikarie, decorating the opening.

This program is aimed at nurturing and supporting new talents who have the potential of being globally active in the fashion industry, through the mission that JFW shoulders of being a “gateway to the world for new, upcoming designers”. The award-winner of the physical division will be provided with support throughout the year, thereby broadening opportunities for brand growth, raise global recognition, aimed at being an opportunity for the award- winning brand to step forward to the next step.

“FETICO” Designer, Ms. Emi Funayama

The “FETICO” 2023 S/S collection, inspired by the actress/author Ms. Izumi Suzuki, suggested wear that brings out the beauty of each individual by praising “the beauty of form of women”, which FETICO has always held dear, while incorporating essences of the 1970’s when a free and liberal culture bloomed.


After the show, an award ceremony was held, at which, a memento was awarded from the JFWO Senior Director.
In addition, FETICO, the grand-prix award-winning brand will be awarded ¥1,000,000 along with support in use of official venues / registration fee for participation free of charge. Because this award grants year-round support, this support will continue on to the next 23 A/W season scheduled to be held next March. Thank you for your continued attention.

JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2023 EXHIBITION, starting from today

In connection with the brand support program, “JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2023” introduced on the previous page, a joint exhibition will be held for 3 days, starting today, August 29th (Mon.) ~ August 31st (Wed.), by “FETICO”, the grand-prix award-winning brand is introduced, and “HAENGNAE”, “natsumiosawa”, the special recognition award-winning brands works are exhibited as the “JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2023 EXHIBITION”. The judges visited the venue on The first day.

“HAENGNAE”, this being their 3rd season from launch, they are exhibiting behind the scenes along with masterpieces up to now as Chapter 1~3. An exhibit in which the brand’s worldview/history can be viewed. As for “natsumiosawa”, regardless of seasonal developments, is exhibiting one-of-a-kind upcycled vintage kimonos, pieces made of textile handcrafted by the designer herself, inspired by traditional Japanese “shibori”. The worldview of the brand can be enjoyed.

Regarding the brand support program digital division “JFW DIGITAL GRAND PRIX”

Please look forward also to the brand support program’s digital division, the “JFW DIGITAL GRAND PRIX”, starting this season also. The grand-prix will be selected by qualitative assessment of collection contents, work, expressionism (artistry), etc. by the screening committee, along with viewing frequency in the Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO Official YouTube account (during a selected time period). EZUMi 17:00~ physical presentation

EZUMi, participating in Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO for the first time since changing their brand name to “EZUMi” in 2018, presented their latest collection in a runway show, under the theme of “Victorian woman in modern days”.

Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO 2023 S/S SDGs Reporter, Ms. Neru Nagahama, visits the venue

Ms. Neru Nagahama, appointed as the official “SDGs Reporter” since the Rakuten FWT 2022 S/S season, visited the show venue of “FETICO”, the award-winning brand of the “JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2023”. This season again, she will be reporting on “SDGs that fashion can do”, through reports of this season’s SDGs events, activities such as designing the Rakuten FWT 2023 S/S Official eco-bag herself, utilizing scraps of hygiene merchandise developed by the fabrics manufacturer, KOMATSU MATERE Co., Ltd.

She told us of her fervor in being the SDGs Reporter for 3 consecutive seasons, what she is looking forward to, and about the Official bag she designed this season.

A limited number of this official-bag is scheduled to be given away at the official venues, related events, as presents.

Mr. Taiichi Mukai, the artist who wrote “Fun!”, the Rakuten FWT 2023 S/S season theme song, visited the venue

The highly praised season promotion movie, a collaboration between “music”, “animation” and fashion as cultures representing Tokyo, introduced last season as a new key visual. In the Rakuten FWT 2023 S/S season, it has been created in cooperation with Mr. Kazuki Gotanda, a videographer/collage artist with a unique point of view, and Mr. Taiichi Mukai, a sing-a-song writer who is also active as a model. In this time’s promotion movie, we asked Mr. Taiichi Mukai, strongly supported for his songs, to write an original song. That Mr. Taiichi Mukai, visited the show venue on the first day.
