Guideline on disease control of COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019) in fashion shows ー On the wearing and taking off of masks ー

Having changed their basic management policy, as of March 13th, with regards to the wearing of masks as a measure in infection control of COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019), the Japanese government has changed their current standing on handling, to instead of the government uniformly setting down rules, it has been decided that independent choice of individuals shall be respected, and that basically, the wearing or not wearing of masks will be entrusted to judgement of each individual (material no.1). In accordance, as of March 13th, the wearing of masks will be entrusted to judgement of individuals, but it is also indicated that for business operators, if/when it is deemed necessary for reasons of infection control and/or business reasons, such as conducting an event in which elders, etc. gather, it is possible the user and/or staff may be asked to wear a mask by the operator.

Furthermore, unless some special circumstances occur, as of May 8th, the legal positioning of COVID-19 will be changed to a “Category V infectious disease”. With this, as of May 8th, the JFWO will be discontinuing use of the “Guideline on disease control of COVID-19 in fashion shows”. However, articles regarding the wearing of masks will be eliminated as of March 13th. For the wearing and taking off of masks, please refer to the governments’ “Reconsiderations regarding the way of thinking in the wearing of masks” (material no.2).

Moreover, based on changes in basic management policies, rules/regulation/handling will differ depending upon the venue, facility, etc., and/or operator of each individual fashion show, so if/when carrying out a fashion show, please be sure to create a cooperative relationship along with holding prior discussions with related local social parties of where the venue is located (local government, public health centers, venue/facility management) without fail.
