The Mainichi Fashion Awards (organized by the Mainichi Shimbun and supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), a related event of the Rakuten FWT, was established in 1982 to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Mainichi Shimbun, in order to recognize outstanding achievements and creative activities in the fashion industry and to promote cultural and industrial development and vitalization.
