RakutenFWT 2025 S/S | Day 1 Report
Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO(Rakuten FWT)2025 Spring/Summer (organized by Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO)) has welcomed its first day of the event.
“TOKYO FASHION AWARD AWARD 2025” award-winners announcement, “ 10 years of TOKYO FASHION AWARD ” preview exhibition, and opening party for Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO 2025 Spring/Summer; all on the day before the event.
On the night before the official start of the 2025 Spring/Summer season, “TOKYO FASHION AWARD 2025” award-winning brands were announced, the “ 10 years of TOKYO FASHION AWARD ” preview exhibition and Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO 2025 Spring/Summer opening party were held at Omotesando Hills Space O, Omotesando Hills, Tokyo. Approximately 500 people were in attendance, including members of the general public, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the TOKYO FASHION AWARD and the opening season of Fashion Week.

A look at the “10 years years of TOKYO FASHION AWARD” exhibition
During the press conference held prior to the special preview exhibition the newly appointed board chairperson of the Japan Fashion Week Oragnaization (JFWO), Tsuyoshi Shimoji, took the stage. A total of 8 brands were selected: KANEMASA PHIL., Tamme, tokio, HATRA, RIV NOBUHIKO, SATORU SASAKI, and TAN.
Guests enjoyed the event with a selection of refreshments, including “DASSAI” sparkling sake provided by official sponsor Asahi Shuzo, Chang Beer, 333 (bier bia biere), and green tea from official media partner, meta. A commemorative booklet of about 200 pages was also distributed to guests at the event on a first-come first-serve basis.
Opening Runway Show “TELMA” (11:30~) Shibuya Hikarie Hikarie Hall A
TELMA, the winner of the “JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2025,” held the first ever runway to start off the fashion week. The original fabrics developed through highly technical Japanese domestic production the brand is known for, combined with the unique prints made a strong presence. The concept of this season captured the designer’s desire to return to something “essential”, such as people and things. The layering of colors and patterns made extensive use of TELMA‘s signature transparent materials and captivated audience members. Expectations are high for this “Tokyo brand” to spread its wings globally.
“JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2025” Award Ceremony Held
The “JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2025” award ceremony was held following the runway show. JFWO board chairperson Tsuyoshi Shimoji presented TELMA designer Terumasa Nakajima with a commemorative crystal award. During the award ceremony, Mr. Nakajima remarked joyfully, “TELMA was launched during the Corona pandemic, because of feeling the potential of the clothes. I’m able to receive this award today thanks to everyone who helped me, including my team and the production members.”

HIDESIGN is a collective of specialists in design, pattern making, cutting, and sewing for WORK UNIFORMS. This season, following the theme of “blue collar,” which refers to manual laborers, the company presented air-conditioned clothing with a unique structure that cools with less airflow than before. They announced the production for the workwear was cut and sewn using their proprietary temperature control material “℃ELSIUS®︎” and was specially tailored by 3D patternmaking for various occupations such as transporters.
coconogaccoclass in Hikarie
“coconogacco” is exhibiting works created by currently enrolled students at Shibuya Hikarie 8th floor 8/COURT as of today. In addition to the exhibition, classes will be held as usual with in-person tutoring between instructors and students. The exhibit offers a glimpse into the day-to-day activities of the students as they create works on the spot using a variety of materials.
Additionally, a talk event by Sara Sozzani Maino, creative director of the Sozzani Foundation, and Yoshikazu Yamagata, head of coconogacco, will be held at Omotesando Hills Space O from 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 4th.

JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2025 EXHIBITION by TELMA
TELMA’s freshly debuted Spring/Summer 2025 collection looks and runway videos are now on display at Shibuya Hikarie 8F 8/ CUBE.
There is also an exhibit by FOREARTH, an environmentally friendly inkjet textile printer from KYOCERA Document Solutions Inc. that printed the fabrics used in the looks. FOREARTH has been garnering attention as a sustainable printer due to the fact that it does not use water in the fabric printing process.

Masahiko Miyake awarded the Amiko Kujiraoka Award at the 42nd Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix
Masahiko Miyake, former board chairperson of the Japan Fashion Week Organization, received the Amiko Kujiraoka Award at the 42nd Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix. The Amiko Kujiraoka Award is presented to a person or organization that has contributed to the industry over a significant span of time. A feature article including interviews with the winners will appear in the Mainichi Newspaper’s morning edition in early October.
