Brand information / About the designer

―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.

Mr. Martin Margiela purchasing my work was one of the things that inspired me to become a designer. I am very grateful to him for giving me courage and hope.

―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing?

DRESSEDUNDRESSED means “dressed and undressed.
I continue to explore the boundaries of unconstrained fusion of opposing elements. As a fashion designer, I am responsible for the outer (visible) beauty of a garment by tailoring it. However, I am also a believer in inner (unseen) beauty. In my work, showing or hiding the skin implies a metaphorical role and interrelationship between the exterior and the interior, between putting on and taking off. Clothing cannot exist without the body, and the body cannot exist in part without clothing. We are interested in that interrelationship.
The important thing is to see the invisible. It is important not to discuss what we do not understand, but to be willing to not give up trying to understand. Gender, nationality, age, rights, time, race, I hope that prejudice and discrimination will disappear from the world.

―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.

DRESSEDUNDRESSED attaches great importance to the limited-time-only stores that are held irregularly. At these limited-time stores, the brand members involved in the collection, including myself, provide direct design explanations and styling suggestions, creating a connection and interaction between DRESSEDUNDRESSED and its customers.

―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?

I admire many people and am influenced by many works. Therefore, choosing a particular brand, designer, style, or culture is not an easy task for me.

About 2024 A/W collection

―Why did you decide to present your collection in an online format?

Is fashion necessary?
Looking back, we have been presenting our collections on the runway for 8 years, from our Fall/Winter 2012 collection, when we made our runway debut, to our Fall/Winter 2020-2021 collection, when we presented a no-show due to the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). The brand has continued to present its collections on the runway for eight years. The new coronavirus outbreak, Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, and the Palestinian-Israeli war led us to repeatedly ask the question, Do we need fashion? Through my video work from the Spring/Summer 2022 collection, I realized a new way of presenting fashion that is different from the runway and a new way of seeing the possibilities of fashion.I think I have realized the importance of seeing the invisible.

―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2024 A/W season?

“Rêverie”

―What is your vision for your show / installation? (General description only)

A collection that uses dreams I have had myself.
The use of my own dreams inevitably means that I must expose to the eyes of others the inner workings of my own mind, more than I would have liked, more than I would have considered a fashion designer’s duty. I can only hope and expect that I will not be denied freedom of thought, at least for the workings of my dreams.

Future

―What are your brand’s future outlook and goal?

I will surely continue to live my life as a fashion designer. But I do not want to distinguish myself within the framework of fashion. We are the same people, and we should share and rejoice with various people who share the same ideas, artists, musicians, chemists, literary people, and so on. That feeling is what is important to me.
