Brand information / About the designer

―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.

We recognise a rising demand for practical fashion with minimalistic designs and uniqueness.  This marked the birth of HOUSE OF V.  With the shared belief in minimal silhouette with energetic design details within the team, we create pieces that are both stylish and original.

―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing?

Inspired by architecture and guided by the most basic unit in design – lines, HOUSE OF V strives to create elegant and minimalistic fashion.  Every detail in the design pieces is carefully crafted and curated to achieve sartorial harmony.  The “V” of HOUSE OF V represents the designer philosophy of using simple lines to create subtle depth.

―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?

I love to visit museums, furniture and lifestyle stores and also to get inspiration from special architectures during overseas travels.  For instance, I have visited Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain, designed by American architect Frank Gehry, which the architectural elements influence my design concepts.

―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?

I personally appreciate Yohji Yamamoto and Madeleine Vionnet very much.  They are the masters of tailoring.  Yohji represents the modern and avant-garde tailoring features with his signature revolutionary loose silhouettes.  Madeleine, on the other hand, is regarded “the architect among dressmakers”.

About 2017 S/S collection

―Why have you chosen Tokyo(Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO) as the venue for presenting your collection?

To me, Tokyo is the Asian fashion centre with long fashion forward history.  I appreciate the unique culture and hospitality as well as the aesthetic position.  We are excited to present our collections on the runway at the Tokyo Fashion Week, which is under the spotlight of the international fashion world.

―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2017 S/S season?

This collection includes styles from occasion wear to leisure outfits, blending urban city looks with leisure summery chill. Inspired by the Deconstructivist architecture of American architect Frank Gehry and swimming pool features in modern resorts, the collection carries these elements and our own utilitarian aesthetic. Attention to details is the key, presented by fluid cutting panels, silhouettes with a mixture of carefully chosen fabrics and colours.

―What is your vision for your show / installation?

We will present our latest collection “Urban Chill” at the Fashion Hong Kong show, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. I hope to present a refreshing summery collection during the show.

Future

―What are your brand’s future outlook and goal?

HOUSE OF V will persist in designs that allow the wearers to express themselves.  Uniqueness, quality and orientation to designs will continue to be the soul of HOUSE OF V.  With flows of inspiration, there will be innovative refined lines and geometry applied to each new collection.

About TOKYO

―What does Tokyo represent for you?

Japan is the place where I spend good, calm and mindful time for vacation.  There are many gorgeous natural sceneries and landscapes which cannot be easily found in other countries.  The attractiveness of Tokyo city is hard to articulate – dazzling night view, wonderful architectures and energetic paces all contribute to the dynamic urban scene.

―Which parts / sites of Tokyo do you like most? Why?

I love spending time in The National Art Centre Tokyo in Roppongi where local and international modern art and graphic art are displayed.  This organic architecture was designed by the architect Kisho Kurokawa and is truly fascinating.  I also love walking along the small shops at Ebisu, where trendy and stylish designs are first introduced.
