Brand information / About the designer

―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.

Self-discovery has been a very important factor in my life. After graduated from Law/Commerce from University of New South Wales, and being in both law and commerce industry, the curiosity in the creative industry arose. Audaciously, I plunged myself into fashion with not much knowledge- only with strong interests and personal curiousity and a little bit of capital. Everything was not the easiest but always has been refreshing and reinvigorating. Patrick Owen launched solo handedly with not much mission and vision on hand. It was purely to satisfy the curiousty I always had. Slowly, it grows and became a team, a supportive team, a community of people who believed in me and stick by me even when I had nothing much to offer to them. Then it turned into a small fashion house with the aim not to just make clothes for personal pleasure but to empower both men and woman on an equal platform. It has been a trial and error in the house, we have not been doing the conventional way which is why the house is always in chaotic state. But that’s also the reason why we thrive. I can’t imagine losing the freedom that I am having now. I don’t think I can.

―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing? What are the images of men and women you want to project?

Patrick Owen was brought to existance from a blunt-force obsession for art, for life. It strives to explore and experience the unexpected, for endless rediscoveries of inspiration from mankind’s own darkness and light.

―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?

Life itself. Whatever form that spike my curiousity, and hits my intuition. It starts from a daily life idea, romantism of an idea into the actual creation itself.

―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.

Galleries Lafayette (store in store), Central Department Store (store in store), Masari (online). The typical of my followers are independent beings who value and open to perspectives that is different from the norms. There is no right or wrong. They appreciate diversity and the idea of it.

―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?

Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto are my inspiration. The way they embrace freedom and always stayed free in their design, and business structure in their label.

About 2018 A/W collection

―Why have you chosen Tokyo(Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO) as the venue for presenting your collection?

Tokyo is a city that is full of diversity and I am extremely curious about it.

―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2018 A/W season?

It is about #stylehack. Embracing (not reminiscing) the past and its impact on the present, and future at the wildest possible manner. It is soulful but not nolstalgic. It is rich of culture but not ethic. It is now but not being insensitive about what had happened in the past.

―What is your vision for your show / installation?

To create a whole new world for my own imagination to grow freely, a haven (even for a few minutes) of my very own curioustiy and adventures created by my whole team – a time to stay quiet at the backstage to send off our hardwork (babies) on the runway to grow on the audience. Thereafter, each and every piece of them will no longer be just mine, or ours. It will be for everyone. So, I want the runway to feel liberated.

Future

―What are your brand’s future outlook and goal?

Who would know what will happen. We can always plan and have goals and target. That is very important. Flexibility, creativity and resillience towards changes and the growth around us is the upmost important things we must hold. Patrick Owen hopes to be a breath of new air to the industry, and to empower generations to come.
