Brand information / About the designer
―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.
After graduated an art university in 2009, I got in to Central Saint Martins in London.
After coming back to Japan, I worked for Japanese fashion brand as a design assistant, and In 2014 set up my own label ‘’AKIKOAOKI”.
―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing?
AKIKOAOKI is a womenswear brand which creates a romantic world of the delicate mixed with the nostalgia. Inspired by the sense of fantasy that hides in the reality, AKIKOAOKI presents the feminine and yet classical style ideally for a individual woman.
―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?
My collection is based on my real life.
―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.
The garments are sold at Tokyo. The customers are women who are 20 to 30 age.
―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?
my mother and my grand mother.

―Why have you chosen Tokyo (or MBFWT) as the venue for presenting your collection?
I showed my collection twice in young designer’s group “Tokyo New Age”. I think
―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2016 S/S season?
a rebellious age
―What is your vision for your show / installation?
This time, I challenged new thing in my collection. hope to make you feel something NEW.
Also this is the first time to me to show the catwalk runway. I want to show the outfits clearly more than the past one.
Future
―What are your brand’s future outlook and goal?
I want to put my outfits in some boutiques in other countries except Tokyo much more. Also I hope to have an exhibition and showroom in foreign countries.
About TOKYO
―What does Tokyo represent for you?
There are historical place and young culture both together. It is very unique and chaotic.
―Which parts / sites of Tokyo do you like most? Why?
Firstly, I recommend the house of Mr.Jiro Shirasu in Machida. His style is mixed with Eastern and Western culture. Also the house has very personal. The second, the imperial place around at Kasumigaseki. I like a walk there at night.
―What are your favorite / recommended shops (of any genres, e.g. fashion stores, homeware stores, food services), facilities and sites?
