Brand information / About the designer

―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.

I grew up in an very artistic surrounding. With my mother being very interested in Paintings and my Father being an architect I got a feel for esthetic and beauty but the strongest inspiration for becoming a fashion designer is coming from my Grandmother who was running many small fashion boutiques where I would hang out a lot when I was small.
As I started I had problems finding something I wanted to wear, everything was very uniform. So I decided to launch a label with cool and interesting pieces to great a new stimulating and fascinating wardrobe for men.

―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing? What are the images of men and women you want to project?

A short description would be: Classic iconic menswear pieces reworked with new proportion made of the newest materials on the market. Menswear pieces are contaminated by fabrics, shapes and colors usually used in womenswear and vise verse.
I want to communicate happiness through the colours I use, a certain easiness with a touch of humor is always a very important part in my collection.

The man and women in my mind are confident and through this they are powerful in their appearance. They love to dress Andrea Pompilio because they are easy and cool and transmit playfulness and happiness. The Person who buys Andrea Pompilio needs to have guts to wear something different , something that is “loud” in color and design. They are not scared to mix and match colours, shapes and prints in every possible way.

―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?

My Source is basically everything around me. The trips and travels I make, cool people I see on the street, new cool movies and music I come across as well as arts and street style . I really don’t have only one source I get inspired from.

My designing process always starts with a huge research of novelties in textiles & prints and from there I develop my collection.

―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.

Andrea Pompilio is very strong in the Asian Market such as Japan, China & Korea but on the same time we are doing a very well in Europe and get a lot of attention from the U.S.A
People who research the niche fashion market, who wants to be stimulated by new cool things and like to wear new exciting pieces.

―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?

I couldn’t name a Person here. It is actually my experience that has the biggest impact on my style. I was working for Prada, YSL, CK, etc and I was living in many different Cities (Milan, NY, Paris, etc) this is what influenced me the most and gave me a lot of input for my designs.

About 2014-15 A/W collection

―Why have you chosen Tokyo (or MBFWT) as the venue for presenting your collection?

In Tokyo we present the Co-Branding between Onitsuka Tiger and Andrea Pompilio so for me it was natural that we are also doing a show during the MBFWT since Onitsuka Tiger is based here and I always felt very attached to Japan.

―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2014-15 A/W season?

This Seasons Onitsuka Tiger x Andrea Pompilio collection is inspired by the concept of urban spaceman: a new generation of metropolitan cosmonauts who interact with space and the city and contaminates a purely street wear style with innovative and more sophisticated elements.

―What is your vision for your show / installation?

My Vision is to create this space the cosmonaut is interacting with. A space to communicate what surface this urban spaceman is living.

Future

―What are your brand’s future outlook and goal for 2014?

A lot of things happened the last 3 years and I still want to achieve a lot but I rather do not give it away.

About TOKYO

―What does Tokyo represent for you?

Perfect combination between the cultural past and the contemporary time we are living in. A vibe not possible to be found in any other city in this way and form.

―Which parts / sites of Tokyo do you like most? Why?

Each part has an interesting energy/vibe of its own. I couldn’t pick only one.

―What are your favorite / recommended shops (of any genres, e.g. fashion stores, homeware stores, food services), facilities and sites?

The list is really long, there are a lot of great sites all around the city and always when I go there I find something even cooler and more interesting. It is hard to pick only a view.
