Brand information / About the designer

―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.

I wanted to be an artist when I was a kid and I love to draw. The moment I wanted to be a fashion designer was the first time I saw beautifully-made dresses from hundreds year ago in the Victoria and Albert Museums in London. It was in my first year studying in womenswear in Central Saint Martins.
Something that really impress me is the way fashion influences on human culture and history. While I believe in the beauty of nature, I always transform it into different themes and seasons via colour, structure and movements. I like to bring the beauty of nature to the fashion industry with my vision of fragile femininity. I have since then started my own brand.

―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing?

Feminine independence and inner strength. I designed clothes to accentuate the delicate elegance of modern women. Inspired by love, I convey my belief in the beauty of feminine grace with romantic sartorial details and soft hand-drawn watercolor prints. My work has a strong emphasis on fluidity.

―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?

Women and nature.
I normally collect many elements then take them away one by one. The elements left behind build the concept.

―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.

My designs are mainly sold in my own shop in Hong Kong.
The followers of our brand are women that love artistic prints and sophisticated cuts. They also love our refreshing feminine designs.

―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?

British culture influences my design the most as I’ve loved this country since I was a kid. I love British gardening, interior as well as their historic architecture, musicals and costumes. The stories and thoughts of different women also inspire me a lot.

―Do you have any aspirations or mottoes or quotes that inspires you?

‘I did everything he did but backwards and in high heels.’ Ginger Rogers, actress and dancer.
‘When I look back on my life, I see pain, mistakes and heartache. When I look in the mirror, I see strength, learned lessons, and pride in myself.’

About 2016 S/S collection

―Why have you chosen Tokyo (or MBFWT) as the venue for presenting your collection?

Tokyo is the creative hub of Asia and MBFWT is full of young creative energy. I think it is a wonderful event to show my latest collection.

―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2016 S/S season?

The theme of this season is ‘Mermaid Circus’. I went to a wonderful circus show, performed by teams from different countries. It was wonderful to see each team showing its own culture that reflects the country’s costumes, music and dances, etc. All cultures bond well together and created a wonderful talent show. I hope that every race and culture in the world can get along peacefully and create wonderful shows like a circus. We are fascinated by a quiet, peaceful and colourful world that is full of hope and it can be a reality instead the imaginary world in the ocean.

―What is your vision for your show / installation?

We will present our collection at the Fashion Hong Kong show, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. I hope you’ll enjoy the peacefulness of the deep water world reflected by my clothing.

Future

―What are your brand’s future outlook and goal?

I will continue to create designs to provide more options for modern women and satisfy their needs for the fast-changing world. My brand will gain more exposure in international platforms like MBFWT and I will be able to share my philosophy with the audience in different parts of the world. I wish that my pieces can be carried by people of different races and cultures.

About TOKYO

―What does Tokyo represent for you?

Tokyo is like a treasure box. I can find so many beautiful things there. Everything was designed with sophistication, not to mention the wonderful forests and mountains, I have gotten so many inspirations from every single visit.

―Which parts / sites of Tokyo do you like most? Why?

At Lake Kamaguichi, we can see the whole Mount Fuji. I love the quietness and peacefulness, mixed with the unique colours of clouds at sunrise and sunset.
