Brand information / About the designer
―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.
The “universality” I discovered after switching from being a seller to a buyer and dealing with buyers from all over the world when working with sales at the Italian brand CARPE DIEM.
Customers have fashions based on the vogue of the time and their own personal styles, but their tees and shirts are simple.
I realized they were often wearing high quality clothing that had a subtle twist in sensitivities. I thought it would be nice to make such items into a brand one day. That was the start.
Afterwards, I returned to Japan and started the brand “wjk”, but it concluded 4 years later.
Then, in pursuit of the original “casual luxury” idea I had for Japanese men’s fashion, I built the brand “junhashimoto” self-styled after my own name.
―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing?
Matching of form and material. Simple looks but with subtle sensitivities in detail and fitting.
For men who want that “subtle” stylish edge.
―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?
Everyday.
Clothing details that suddenly catch the eye as one brushes past, colors you can seen in the city, the feel of being in the shadows and the personal desire to wear something like that.
―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.
Select shops all over Japan.
For all those people who have been interested in clothes since their teens and continually purchased clothes since then. Over ten years later they too become “adults” and have come think about their own fashion.
―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?
CAPE DIEM / Maurizio Altieri
The overwhelming strength of their concept, their unwillingness to bend, their eye for materials and the way they carry their answer to “What do you want to make?”
About 2016 A/W collection
―Why have you chosen Tokyo (or MBFWT) as the venue for presenting your collection?

―What does Tokyo represent for you?
A city where anything goes and everything is high quality. But a city I can’t quite get fired up about.

Because its an original talk show with the scent of Tokyo’s old Edo castle town (Chiyoda, Taito and Chuo wards).
―What are your favorite / recommended shops (of any genres, e.g. fashion stores, homeware stores, food services), facilities and sites?
Rokugien and Tukiji.
