Brand information / About the designer

―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.

My family gene provides a perfect foundation for me, I’ve been exposed to the world of craftsmanship, detailed patterns and colors since I was young. It inspired me to become a fashion designer. In the meantime, fashion consciousness and famous fashion icons also provided adequate inspiration to my works.

―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing?

I believe in “Destroy & Reborn”. Lives end, lives begin, this cycle never ends. To communicate with others, I would like to break old rules and explore new frontiers in the fashion world. I always love to project the image of ”edgy”, ”cosmopolitan”, “contemporary” and “vibrant” of men and women.

―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?

Latest technologies, primary human behaviors, street-snaps, a cup of Latte – every tiny little thing in life can enlighten me. Usually my design starts with an abstract idea supported with some visual images, followed by photos taken by me and sketches.

―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.

I currently have stores in prime locations in Hong Kong. In this Winter, we will launch a 3,000sqf KOYO Jeans store in Guangzhou, the Chinese mainland. This store is different from other stores because we will incorporate 3D technology in it. There will be a room where there are only touchscreens and customers will see a 30,000sqf virtual store in which they can explore the latest products. It will be an exciting experience for them!

―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?

I can’t name a specific brand and designer. I would say the recent trend is picking up a little bit of everything but the utltimate goal is to build a complete and unique style which suits everyone. Every brand or designer has its own strengths, there is no good or bad in fashion. I would say that the recent Japanese and Korean style, with the sub-culture elements, gives me an edgy-pulse and pushes me beyond the realm to achieve diversity and possibilities.

―Do you have any aspirations or mottoes or quotes that inspires you?

“Do not be trapped, imagination can be far beyond this.” KOYO William

About 2016 S/S collection

―Why have you chosen Tokyo (or MBFWT) as the venue for presenting your collection?

Tokyo is full of opportunities. Persistence, focused-mindsets and the aim to look for the best are all fantastic Japanese characteristics which we can always see in the local fashion. We would love to learn and embrace this tremendous treasure through this event and friendships established thereafter.

―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2016 S/S season?

Travel to the space and its other colonies will be quite possible in the future. This is no longer a fantasy. To celebrate this new page in human history, we will present the related KOYO 2016 Spring Summer collection in Tokyo.

―What is your vision for your show / installation?

We will present our collection at the Fashion Hong Kong show, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. We hope to present our collection about questing the survival and future of human species.

About TOKYO

―What does Tokyo represent for you?

Innovation in style, people’s hard-working mentalities, persistence, details and dedication in all areas are definitely the core values of our beloved Tokyo.

―Which parts / sites of Tokyo do you like most? Why?

Daikanyama and Shibuya are unquestionably my favorites. Shibuya is always new and trendy. Daikanyama, on the other hand has a calming atmosphere that would allow one to reflect on life!

―What are your favorite / recommended shops (of any genres, e.g. fashion stores, homeware stores, food services), facilities and sites?

Tsutaya Books , a book store in Daikanyama. It has a huge range of books and a spacious area, which allows me to relax and is a perfect spot for us to have deep thoughts
