Brand information / About the designer

―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.

I wanted to work on a set of products that reflects my admiration for the culture of this country. The power of handmade that reflects the spirit of Indonesia. I started designing accessories under LEKAT. And as time went by and with good responses – one of them is the regular buyer that we have from Kuwait, I was challenged to do more. In 2013, I started the pret-a-porter collection that I envision to make social and cultural impacts.

―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing? What are the images of men and women you want to project?

Inventiveness, imagination, creative innovation, and fun.

―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?

I am inspired by people, this beautiful country that we live in, places I go, culinary, ceremony, and traditional textiles. The ability to look at the world around us and decode its meaning and relationship in order to communicate and narrate the value behind each of LEKAT design is the essence of my role.

―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.

For those who are young and think young, creative-minded.

―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?

Of course there are some individuals that have been a constant inspiration to me. The one who inspires me that regardless of the change in fashion itself, style has to be timeless. Also the one who reminds me everyday when I wake up that this is such an exciting work as we work on something that contributes to not only people but culture. Role models are important. I guess what I learn from each is that they give me the vision for where I want to go.

About 2019 S/S collection

―Why have you chosen Tokyo(Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO) as the venue for presenting your collection?

We want to move more markets, I believe Tokyo is the strongest part for fashion in Asia.

―What is the concept / image for your brand’s 2019 S/S season?

Classic and eclectic – more of black and white as basic colour and purple, pink, blue, red for the details. Combining pattern of the Baduy’s textile and illustration. Somehow, I want to give a flashback how people have the ability to write and draw, and sending postcards, just to express their feelings and know how are the doing.

―What is your vision for your show / installation?

Something that is lastingly memorable.
