Brand information / About the designer
―What inspired you to become a fashion designer? Describe developments leading up to the brand launch.
I have appreciated fashion since childhood. At University, I majored in graphic design. Upon graduation, I entered the workforce with a job at an advertising firm. After a short time I realized that advertising did not suit me so I left my job and moved to Japan. At that time I was wondering if I should do architecture or fashion. I was impressed when I saw Alexander McQueen AW09 show online. I know this is what I wanted to do so I applied to Bunka Fashion College to learn fashion design. When I was in school I was thinking I wanted to do my own brand someday and could not be more happy to have realized this dream right here in Tokyo where I am the proud designer of my own brand based in Tokyo, Japan.
―What is the brand’s concept? What do you want to communicate through fashion designing? What are the images of men and women you want to project?
I am a an Avant-Garde fashion designer. Every collection looks to nature for inspiration. For instance, prints will incorporate snakes, scales, bones, and flowers. You will see a fusion of both Eastern, and Western cultures as a source of inspiration and infusing various culture-specific elements in choice of shapes, colors, and textiles used in my designs. Wearing any garment or accessory I design is intended to impart strength, confidence, and beauty to the wearer to stand out from the crowd and make an impact.
―What is your source of inspiration in creating fashion? What is your process of developing a design concept?
The nature, everything in my life inspire me – a flower, a bird, even patterns on floor tiles. We don’t follow trends. I always start with a story, and build upon it with each look.
―Who are your current stockists (areas, retail formats, etc.)? Describe the typical followers of your brand.
For now, interested followers can find Viviano Sue collections in select showrooms in China and Japan. Typical followers are various stylists and fashion editors for magazines.
―Which brands, designers, styles and cultures have had the most impact on your fashion designing, and why?
I was very luck to have lived in three different countries – this has given me diverse cultural perspectives to impart on my creations. I admire those designers who do the same in showcasing different cultures like Alexander McQueen, Maison Margiela, John Galliano, Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo.
