Ms. Elena Kendal made an appearance in 7 “2019 Autumn/Winter Collection” shows, as the pick-up model of the 2019 A/W season. This season, appearing in 7 shows was the top of all female models (not including overseas invitation models). We asked Ms. Kendall, whom is bound to make great strides from this experience at AmazonFWT, on her impression of the shows she was in, backstage episodes, her work as a model, and her private life.
First, how was your very first “Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO” runway experience?
Being introduced as the pick-up new model of this season’s fashion week, I felt motivated from way before the fashion week even started, and was so excited, I even enjoyed the close coverage.
Walking the most shows of all the Asian models, was a stimulating, positive experience.
Each brand was fun and exciting in its own way, and this week turned out to be the most substantial, fulfilling week since I’ve started modeling. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody involved in the shows I was in.
I hope to continue walking many runways and continue to step-up as a model so that I can contribute in bringing out the attractions of each brand in expressions befitting myself.
You’ve appeared in 7 shows this season. Please tell us your impression of the items you wore, hair/make-up, and memorable backstage or rehearsal episodes, if any.
March 18 (Mon)19:00 @JASMAC AOYAMA
It was a mysterious and very fun experience, with all the models having a hard time walking around with extremely long hair extensions, sticking our fingers in things shaped like sweets during the show, and a traffic line which goes around in circles.
March 19 (Tuesday)11:30 @Shibuya Hikarie Hikarie Hall B
SHUSHU/TONG, which was held in the morning, had the cutest clothing and hair/make-up among all the brands I appeared in this term. And not just cute and pop. Each item was complicating, and extremely interesting just watching.
March 19 (Tuesday)15:30 @Shibuya Hikarie Hikarie Hall B
The second show of the day, kotohayokozawa, was my favorite of all the 7 shows I was in. It grabbed me by the heart, right smack in the middle, and I was in a happy, excited mood the whole time. Putting a plastic bottle on my head and mascara on my eyelids, I felt as if I were on my way home from an all-night party, and the reverse traffic line compared to usual runways was extremely good. The models were all excited and having fun, and the mood was fantastic.
Malamute, the third show of that day, was very different from the show before that, a show with a very mature, adult mood, all of the sudden. Every item was so sensitive, and extremely beautiful. I personally very much liked the subtleness of the hair style of pulling all the hair all back, but with just one bread down the center.
March 20 (Wednesday)17:30 @Omotesando Hills Main Building B3F Space O
All support surface clothing makes the figure look good, so they are one of my favorite. Especially the first look I wore was a skirt with a very high waist, and when I checked myself out in the mirror, my backside looked extremely beautiful, and it became one of my favorite looks. As for make-up, everybody wore a white eyeline, which was really cute.
March 21 (Thu)11:00 @Shibuya Hikarie Hikarie Hall A
ACUOD by CHANU was really cool. For example, using hair made by newspaper, it is a brand full of playfulness with unique items, which was very fun just looking at.
March 23 (Sat)10:30 @Shibuya Hikarie Hikarie Hall B
I loved the hair and clothing match balance of ANEI on the last day. The wet hair with the languid-ish look was good. The runway was structured in a V-shape, making the looking back of the clothing look vigorous and beautiful, which was really nice.
Do you think this experience at Fashion Week will have influence on your future activities as a model?
Being in 7 shows this term, I felt, standing in front of a camera, wearing hair and make-up befitting each brand while invigorating my emotion, makes the clothing look fabulous.
I think good results will come from simply changing my emotional tension through music and/or clothing, so I intend to keep this in mind even more, from now on
What is the number 1 thing which you are careful of as a model?
The number 1 thing I am careful about now is to stay healthy looking. It’s true that by keeping a nice figure the clothing looks good and I may be idolized by people, but instead of just focusing on that, now-a-days I am conscious of exercising and eating well.
What styles do you prefer in your private wardrobe? If you have any particularities, please tell us.
In my private wardrobe, the majority is basically black.
I like clothing with silhouettes which makes my figure look good, so I tend to wear short-length tops and long pants.
Rather than being overly particular, I like to wear simple looks the most.
Is there anybody whom you were influenced by in fashion?
I haven’t been influenced by anybody in particular in fashion, but I have many friends whom are interested in fashion, and because I started doing this job, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to wear all sorts of clothing, and I naturally became interested in fashion myself.
Is there anything you are particularly ‘into’ right now?
Right now, I’m into soft ice cream and Abs rollers.
I’ve always loved soft ice cream, but recently, I search for new places and go on a soft ice cream tour. The Kyoto Gion Tsujiri Hojicha soft ice cream sold at the Sky tree is my number 1 favorite so far.
Abs rollers are quite harsh, but I do it all the time whenever I have the time. I get new muscles from even just a little bit, and muscles that can’t be gained by regular abs, so it’s fun. I feel a sense of accomplishment.
How do you spend your days off?
Recently, I often go see movies with friends.
Right now I’m in the middle of watching this series, and it’s so much fun.
I think, seeing worlds with realities which differ from mine extends my point of view, and I feel as if I am soaking up something really special.
